About Lá Nua Design
Lá Nua Design Ltd is an architectural practice founded by Austin Carroll, providing architecture, interior design and specialist building consultancy services across residential, commercial and industrial projects.
The name Lá Nua, meaning “New Day” in Irish, reflects both our Irish roots and our belief that good design can mark the beginning of something better: a new way of living, working, adapting or growing. The name also reflects our connection to place. We believe architecture is not simply about creating something new, but understanding what already exists, identifying opportunities for improvement and helping each project move forward with confidence.
LND supports projects from initial feasibility and site analysis through planning, technical design and construction. Our services include architectural and interior design, planning applications, Building Information Modelling (BIM), 3D visualisation, façade design, technical detailing, thermal modelling, daylight assessments and Assigned Certifier services. Alongside architectural services, LND provides specialist consultancy in thermal modelling and daylight assessments, helping design teams evaluate building performance, energy efficiency, daylight quality and compliance requirements. By addressing these considerations early in the design process, we help reduce risk, improve project outcomes and support more sustainable, efficient buildings.
About Austin Carroll
Austin Carroll is the Founder and Director of Lá Nua Design. With a career spanning Ireland, the UK and international projects, he has delivered developments ranging from €300,000 residential builds to multi-million-euro commercial and public schemes. Having studied and qualified in the UK, he spent many years working at senior levels in London, contributing to the delivery of numerous high-profile projects. Austin is a Registered Architect with the RIAI and is also registered with the ARB (Architects Registration Board) in the UK. In addition to leading LND, he is a university lecturer and provides specialist consultancy services to architectural practices and construction professionals. His consultancy work includes BIM implementation, BIM modelling, digital project delivery and the development of company standards, templates and workflows that improve project coordination and efficiency.
Originally coming from an electrical and construction background, he developed a practical understanding of how buildings are assembled and how design decisions translate on site. This hands-on experience, combined with his architectural training, has shaped a highly technical and detail-driven approach to design, with a strong focus on buildability, coordination and project delivery. His experience covers the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and planning through to technical design, construction and delivery, while 20 years of experience in Building Information Modelling (BIM) has given him extensive expertise in digital project delivery and coordination.
His broad expertise spans architectural design, technical detailing, BIM, daylight analysis, thermal modelling and building performance, allowing many services that would traditionally be delivered by separate specialists to be coordinated through a single point of contact. While he has extensive experience delivering large and complex developments, Austin finds smaller residential projects equally rewarding. He believes that successful architecture is not defined by the size of a project, but by the quality of the spaces it creates and the positive impact it has on the people who use them. His work is guided by a strong belief in intelligent space planning, natural light and thoughtful design, recognising the role these elements play in shaping everyday life.
Outside of work, Austin is an enthusiastic amateur triathlete who enjoys the challenge, discipline and balance that the sport brings.
